2023 FIU Wall of Wind NSF NHERI Experimental Facility User Workshop
August 14-15, 2023 | 9:00am - 5:00pm Eastern Time
About the Workshop
The FIU NHERI Wall of Wind (WOW) Experimental Facility (EF) will be hosting an in-person user workshop.
Financial support for travel will be provided and priority will be given to faculty planning to submit NSF proposals that intend to use the NHERI WOW EF. Financial support for attending the workshop will be awarded in order of confirmed registration (hotel and flight arrangements will be managed by FIU up to TBD per individual).
The focus of the workshop is to:
- Provide researchers with information on the capabilities of the NHERI WOW EF at FIU for advanced wind hazard engineering research.
- Describe cross-disciplinary opportunities to leverage the use of Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) technologies at the facility and to perform large-scale synoptic and non-synoptic wind simulations using the NHERI WOW EF.
- Explore opportunities to use the WOW EF for unsolicited, CAREER, and other types of NSF proposals.
- Provide a platform for collaboration to facilitate multi-disciplinary, multi-hazards research.
- Provide one-on-one sessions between NHERI team members (from WOW EF) and workshop participants to discuss ideas.
This workshop will provide participants with valuable information about the resources and services available at the NHERI WOW EF and how to better engage the available capabilities for obtaining NSF funding for natural hazards mitigation research and other basic science research. Also, the workshop will include a tour of the NHERI WOW EF and demonstration of PIV setup.
We look forward to welcoming you to our upcoming workshop!
