Soil Liquefaction Research with NHERI: From Centrifuge Modeling to Field Shaking
Dr. Arash Khosravifar

NHERI Presents Series

May 5, 2026 | 1:00pm - 1:30pm CT

About the Webinar

This presentation will discuss the impact of two NHERI facilities on advancing soil liquefaction research: the centrifuge modeling facility at UC Davis and the truck-mounted field shakers at the University of Texas at Austin. These NSF-sponsored research efforts focus on improving the evaluation and mitigation of liquefaction in silt-rich soils and on understanding lateral spreading effects on pile-supported wharves.

Presenter

Arash Khosravifar, PhD, P.E. | Associate Professor Portland State University

Arash Khosravifar, PhD, P.E. is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Portland State University (PSU). He joined PSU in December 2015. Prior to joining PSU, he worked for Fugro Consultants Inc. in California, where he conducted seismic hazard studies for energy and transportation projects. Dr. Khosravifar received his Ph.D. from the University of California, Davis.

His current research focuses on liquefaction susceptibility assessment of silt-rich soils in the Pacific Northwest, design of pile foundations in laterally spreading grounds, and liquefaction mitigation using microbial-induced desaturation.
