2026 Near-Surface Geophysics Community Input Workshop

As part of the near-surface geophysics community, NHERI is pleased to announce that applications are open for the 2026 Near-Surface Geophysics Community Input Workshop.
This in-person workshop will be held in Albuquerque, New Mexico, August 25 & 26, and will bring together the near-surface geophysics community to shape future science support and collaboration.
The workshop is sponsored by the NSF National Geophysical Facility (NSF NGF, operated by EarthScope) and planned jointly by multiple organizations involved in near-surface geophysics — including the NSF Natural Hazards Engineering Research Infrastructure, NHERI.
Other organizing groups include the Center for Transformative Environmental Monitoring Programs (CTEMPS); Open Topography; the Consortium of Universities for the Advancement of Hydrologic Science, Inc. (CUAHSI), and the AGU Near-surface Geophysics Section.
This input workshop will build on previous efforts to unify the community and determine priorities.
What to Know
- Workshop attendance will be determined by application.
- Attendees must be US citizens, US residents, or at a US-based institution.
- The target audience is college/university faculty and other professionals involved in Earth and environmental science and engineering. Late-stage PhD students will also be considered.
- All accepted attendees are eligible for travel support in the form of hotel accommodations and a plane flight.
- Applications due by June 22.
